Evan Mayo is the founder and principal attorney at Mayo Law Group. His trial practice focuses on defamation and adjacent torts, including business conspiracy, fraud, and misrepresentation claims. He also serves as fractional general counsel for small- and medium-sized businesses in Virginia and Tennessee. As a real estate investor, he enjoys working with individuals and companies on development and land use projects.
In addition to his legal work, Evan is an entrepreneur who has started and grown multiple companies since 2017. S. Addison Day, Esq. grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 2017 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science. Following his undergraduate studies, Addison received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. During his time at Wake Forest, he served on the Elected Honor Council, conducted bankruptcy law research, and served in a pro bono capacity for the Prison Letter Project and Domestic Violence Awareness Clinic.
Addison's practice includes defamation, real estate, commercial, and construction litigation.
Daniel R. O. Long is an Associate Attorney at Mayo Law Group, where his practice primarily includes personal injury and general civil litigation, with a focus on federal practice and personal injury cases.
Daniel began his legal career by practicing plaintiff-side product liability litigation at one of Virginia’s leading asbestos-litigation firms, where Daniel represented victims of asbestos-related diseases and their families. While attending law school at William & Mary, Daniel externed for a United States Magistrate Judge with the Eastern District of Virginia. He also served as an intern with the William & Mary Law School Veterans Benefits Clinic and as a law clerk with a law firm in Culpeper, Virginia. As a member of the William & Mary Moot Court Team, Daniel’s submission won the award for the best brief at the 2020 August A. Rendigs, Jr. National Products Liability Moot Court Competition.
Payal C. Sampat is an Attorney at Mayo Law Group in the firm’s Appellate & Business Transactions practice. Her work spans transactional and appellate advocacy. Before joining the firm, Payal practiced in the New York office of an AmLaw 50 firm, where she structured and documented sophisticated financings and advised corporate and fund clients on a range of transactional matters.
Payal also brings experience in appellate and post-conviction litigation. She previously served as the Staff Attorney with the University of Virginia School of Law’s Innocence Project Clinic, where she drafted dispositive motions and worked closely with experts and policymakers on criminal justice reform initiatives. Payal earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and is licensed in New York and Virginia.
Caitlyn Barrett joined Mayo Law Group at its inception and is grateful to be part of the team. Caitlyn attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University where she studied elementary education and received her master’s degree in special education. Outside of the office, Caitlyn enjoys spending time with her family, painting, being outdoors, and gardening.

Mallory Wentz joined Mayo Law Group in June of 2025 as a Litigation Paralegal. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia in 2022. Since graduating, Mallory has gained experience in the legal field across multiple practice areas and plans to pursue law school. She supports the firm’s attorneys throughout all stages of litigation—from initial investigation and discovery to trial and appeal—by managing case files, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, preparing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, managing deadlines, and providing courtroom support. Outside of the office, Mallory enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and dogs.
The role of Practice Manager and Controller at MLG is deeply meaningful to me. Supporting our clients, attorneys, and staff is at the heart of what I do as I manage the human resources, financial, and operational needs of the firm. I’m proud to work alongside colleagues who consistently strive to deliver the best outcomes for our clients while also being exceptional teammates. Our days are long and busy, but we always find time to eat lunch together—something that reflects the strong culture and sense of connection we value here.
Debbie brought over 30 years of legal experience to Mayo Law Group when she joined in October 2024. Originally from Texas, she has called Charlottesville home since 1997. Debbie attended Eastfield Community College in Dallas, Texas where she honed her computer and word processing skills. When she’s not working, she loves volunteering in her church and community.
My goal is to treat each and every client who reaches out to MLG like they are our only client. I offer them an ear to listen, sometimes a shoulder to cry on and always treat them with the respect they deserve.
As Director of Strategic Projects, Emily thrives on bringing ideas to life that connect people, elevate the firm’s visibility, and make collaboration easier. From coordinating firm and community events to partnering with outside creatives, she helps turn big-picture goals into organized, meaningful outcomes. With a background across startups and nonprofits, Emily values creativity, adaptability, and a good challenge.
Sage is a Staunton native and a former student of Piedmont Community College. Over the past five years, he has pursued a range of entrepreneurial ventures across multiple industries. At Mayo Law Group, his work spans logistics, eDiscovery, and real estate project management.
John is a Systems and Workflow Analyst at Mayo Law Group, where he manages IT and plans and executes technical projects. Beyond his role at the firm, he performs similar technical work for other companies owned by the founder Evan Mayo. John holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from James Madison University.
